Two hundred timba, and a parish after a fire
Gifts for 200 persons with disabilities, packed in timba — the plastic pails a Filipino household goes on using long after the contents are gone. The same year, $2,500 went to San Sebastian Martyr Parish in Muñoz to rebuild after a fire.

What happened
Timba is the Tagalog word for a pail. Packing gifts into one is a common way to give in the Philippines, for a plain reason: when the contents are gone, the household still has the pail. Two hundred of them went to persons with disabilities in Muñoz.
The same year brought an emergency. Fire damaged property of San Sebastian Martyr Parish — the Catholic parish of the Science City of Muñoz, under the Diocese of San Jose de Nueva Ecija — and MUSA sent $2,500 towards rebuilding. It was a different kind of giving from the pails: no list, no distribution day, just a parish that had to put something back up.
